“There is no sincerer love than the love of food.”
-George Bernard Shaw
Smoking, a bad thing, can be an addiction. Running, a good thing, can be an addiction. Food, a necessary thing, can also be an addiction. Have you thought, “I know this may sound crazy (even though it doesn’t sound crazy at all), but I think I am addicted to food. I love food.”
You and the majority of America! The taste could be a reason people love food, but even more so, the happy hormones released shortly after. Those chemicals released in response to the food are typically what keep us coming back for more.
Take a step back for a moment though and think about how these foods actually make you feel…long-term.
A sugar high can only last so long. Focus on these associations, the way foods make you feel, to help change food preferences and challenge this so-called addiction. I bet a plateful of colorful carrots, broccoli and cauliflower with a fancy rice pilaf and portion of blackened salmon will settle pretty well! Learn to love the food that will love you back in the long-run.
