“If I have 10 chocolate cakes and someone asks me for one, how many chocolate cakes do I have left? That’s right, 10.”
Even when practicing eating assertion as discussed in Ten Cakes Left, it still leaves the door wide open to say, “BUT, I DON’T CARE.”
Do you really not care? Challenge yourself by taking it a step further and addressing the elephant in the room. This conversation with yourself may sound like the following, “Of course I want the candy, but I do not need the candy. I am conflicted because the candy I want to eat will not help me reach the nutrition goals I have set for myself.”
By simply acknowledging that the struggle exists, you may find it easier to manage.
Pat yourself on the back if you are able to take even a single step back from the tasty treat. Those steps can add up! Then, let the other person eat all 10 cakes.
